Evaluation of the exchangeable potassium with K42 in normal subjects and in patients with chronic renal failure.

Determinou-se o potássio permutável (Kp), através do método de diluição isotópica com o 42K em duas séries de indivíduos de ambos os sexos — 19 indivíduos normais (INs) e 19 insuficientes renais crónicos (IRC5) com FG < 25 ml/min. Da analise dos resultados foi possível concluir que: a) 58 % dos IRCs apresentam um défice de potássio o qual e possível corrigir através da administração prolongada de um suplemento de potássio. b) o Kp e o Kp/kg é menor nos indivíduos do sexo feminino. A diferença para os valores observados no sexo masculino e estatisticamente significativa (P < 0,05). c) não existe qualquer correlação entre os valores do Kp/kg e os níveis plasmáticos do potássio (PK).
